In September, ECF welcomed Alex Bates in his new position as part-time Land Stewardship Coordinator for ECF properties. His responsibilities include monitoring Conservation Restrictions, tackling invasive species, interacting with neighbors, working with volunteers, and supervising AmeriCorps workers.
Alex was most recently a program supervisor at AmeriCorps Cape Cod, where he coordinated more than 100 service projects with local, state, federal, and nonprofit entities. As a general corps member, he was placed with the Brewster Conservation Trust and Brewster Department of Natural Resources. During his year of service he fell in love with the natural beauty and sense of community on Cape Cod.
With a BA in Biology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Alex completed coursework in GIS applications, which will serve ECF well. Among his accomplishments, in 2014 he completed the thru-hike of the entire Appalachian Trail—2,156 miles from Georgia to Maine!
