Bird Box Monitoring Program
Over the past ten years ECF volunteers Bill and Ann Allan have erected 31 bird boxes at Cottontail Acres, Nickerson Conservation Area, and various private properties. The boxes are configured for bluebird nesting but multiple species utilize them.
The program is designed to provide much needed nesting habitat for cavity nesters and to gather data. Nesting data is recorded with The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s NestWatch Project, which is a nationwide nest-monitoring program designed to track the status and trends in the reproductive biology of birds.
Participation is easy and anyone can do it. Anyone interested in participating with existing boxes or new ones can contact Bill Allan.
