Last year on Earth Day, ECF organized the first ever Cleanup of the Bee’s River marsh in Eastham, in coordination with the Town DPW. Volunteers removed 1.5 tons of trash (accumulated plastic and other rubbish) from the shoreline, which our DPW took to the Transfer Station.
The marsh acts like a big basket collecting human rubbish transported by strong floods and winds. Most common and most damaging has been the infusion of plastics. It’s vitally important that these be removed so they do not become part of the environment as they break down over time.
This year’s Earth Day on April 22, ECF volunteers will do it again. The shoreline will be split into six sections with a team of volunteers assigned to each session.
